Kim Chapman

MALEIGHA LIGHT is is a 29-year old native of Northeast Arkansas. She has been competing in the show ring for decades and brings with her a wide array of experiences from the Western Pleasure and Barrel Horse world to the Hunter and Eventing venues. At the age of four, Maleigha was competing on family-trained Western Pleasure horses and Barrel Horses, and by her teens she had entered the world of Hunt Seat.

In college, she was the president of the Equestrian Club and competed successfully in Hunters and Show Jumping on the German Town "A" circuit. Hunters slowly faded and gave way to more Show Jumping and that eventually led to the world of Three Day Eventing.

Eventing is where Maleigha's personal passion lies, but coaching equitation is definitely where her heart is. Since Maleigha's arrival in Florida, she has focused strictly on the Hunter ring. She will be the first to tell you that "Equitation is what wins, whether you are in the Hunter ring, Cross-Country field or Show Jumping rings. Look at all of the Greats, they have phenomenal equitation! Good equitation and technicality can save you over a bad fence."

Maleigha enjoys putting that "finishing school" touch on all of her riders and prides herself on tight legs and quiet hands. "A talented rider is kind of like a rough diamond," she is fond of saying, "knock off all the junk and polish it up a little bit and it looks like a million bucks."

Maleigha is available any day of the week at Ledesma Equestrian Center and is always thrilled to have a new student that she can help polish.
